The recommended applications of sensor based appliance monitoring are;
- Appliances with a higher power rating and generally over 800W,
- Appliances connected using a dedicated hardwired circuit or require at least a 15A AC outlet.
- Appliances that are connected to an outdoor GPO where the WiFi Plug cannot be used as it is rated for indoor use only. Examples of this include pool pumps that are often installed outdoors and even though they are commonly connected using a 10A outlet tend to have a higher power rating.
For appliances used in an indoor setting and connected to a 10A GPO we recommend using the WiFi plug for monitoring.
Performance
- Sensor based appliance monitoring is measured relative to the house sensor and will be within 5% of the appliance load as presented at the house sensor.
- The measured power is inclusive of power losses in the wiring connected to the appliance
- As the primary use case is for high load devices the specified performance is for appliances that consume 800 watts or more when active
- Standby loads of less than 100 watt when the appliance is not in use are excluded from energy calculations.
