The Powersensor plug utilises Bluetooth technology to communicate with the sensor(s). To ensure a strong Bluetooth connection, it is recommended to place the plug in an outlet that is within approximately 10 metres of the sensor(s). As a general guideline, this distance is equivalent to being two rooms apart. However, please note that the actual range may vary depending on any obstacles present between the plug and the sensor(s).
Maintaining a strong Bluetooth connection is crucial because it enables the sensors to continuously transmit data to the plug, which functions as a ‘gateway’. Subsequently, the plug sends both the sensor data and the collected appliance energy consumption data to the cloud over WiFi. This seamless transmission of data is what allows the Powersensor app to display real-time energy information.
In scenarios where the sensor is not within Bluetooth range of the plug or experiences a weak Bluetooth connection, the sensor will store the collected data and transmit it over WiFi every 30 minutes. This is because the WiFi protocol is more energy-intensive and impacts the sensor's battery life. Consequently, the data displayed on the app will be delayed.
To address this issue, you can try relocating the plug closer to the sensor or consider purchasing an additional plug. For more information on whether you need a second plug, please see our article on installing an additional plug.
It's also important to consider the appliance you connect to the plug to get the most out of your Powersensor solution.
