A solar inverter (sometimes called a string or centralised inverter) is a single centralised unit that converts the direct current (DC) solar output from your solar panels into a regular 230V alternating current (AC). The 230V alternating current AC is fed to your switchboard and into your home's electrical wiring.
The appliances in your home need AC to run, so the solar inverter converts the energy generated from your solar panels into usable electricity for your home.
You will usually find your solar inverter mounted against the wall on the side of your house or in your garage. You will notice it has two cables attached to it. One is the DC input and the other is the AC output.
Where can I find my solar inverter?
