Question
I have a solar system installed (or am thinking of getting one installed). Before I buy the Powersensor Advanced Solar Solution, how do I know whether it will be suitable for my setup?
Answer
The Powersensor Advanced Solar Solution is suitable for households that have solar installed, or households thinking of getting solar in the near future.
The Powersensor Advanced Solar Solution is generally compatible with most homes that have solar installed. Check your home setup is compatible:
Location
You can use Powersensor in any state of Australia as long as you have a compatible setup.
Home profile
Powersensor is suitable for:
- Both homeowners and renters
- Freestanding house, unit, or townhouse
Please note: In order to get the most out of your Powersensor, it is important that you have access to your meter board. Powersensor does not support the installation of the meter board sensor at the switchboard!
Meter type/configuration
Australian homes will have either a digital or analog meter. The configuration of either meter can be:
- Single-phase
- 2-phase
- 3-phase
Most compatible fit
Powersensor is most suitable to use with a digital single-phase meter.
Other options
Digital 2 or 3-phase
We advise that if you have a digital 2 or 3-phase meter, you get in touch with us to confirm your compatibility. Please email us here with photos of your meter board.
Analogue (single phase)
We are preparing to expand our solution to be compatible with analog meters (single-phase). If you have an analog meter and would like to be notified when the analog-compatible solution is available, please get in touch here.
How to determine which meter type/configuration you have.
Solar system
There are two types of solar inverters used for residential homes in Australia - microinverters and string inverters - and the Powersensor Advanced Solar Solution is compatible with both!
It doesn't matter if you have an existing solar system or have just had solar installed - the Powersensor Advanced Solar Solution suits all situations.
Accessibility
The hardware components of Powersensor (the sensor and the plug) communicate via Bluetooth. As a result, it is recommended that there is no more than three rooms distance between where you choose to use your plug and where your sensors are attached (both to your meter and solar system).
Other Things to Consider
If any of the following apply to you, Powersensor may not be compatible with your setup.
- If you live in an apartment and don't have access to your electricity meter
- If you do not have access to your electricity meter for any other reason (Powersensor doesn't support the installation of your meter board sensor on the switchboard)
- If you have a battery
If any of the following home setup factors apply to you, we recommend getting in touch here
to confirm compatibility before purchase. Please include a clear image of your entire meter board setup:
- If you have a separate tariff or metered load such as electric hot water or heater
- If you have more than one inverter
