There are two reasons to buy an additional plug:
1. Use a gateway plug to be within Bluetooth range of a sensor(s)
In order for your sensors to communicate, they need to be within Bluetooth range of a WiFi Plug. Additionally, there must be a preferred load appliance connected to a plug for Powersensor to calibrate properly. However, sometimes your meter and/or solar inverter are not within Bluetooth range of a preferred appliance.
In this case, you'll need an additional plug, or a 'gateway' plug. You don't have to attach an appliance to the gateway plug, but it must be powered on and within Bluetooth range of your sensor(s). This allows you to connect a preferred load to the 2nd plug which does not need to be within Bluetooth range of your sensor(s). The combination of data collected across the preferred load plug and the gateway plug keeps your Powersensor calibrated and allows you to view your real-time data anywhere from the Powersensor app.
2. Monitor Additional Appliances
Powersensor allows you to monitor appliances within your house. You can compare your appliance usage against your overall house energy consumption all within the Powersensor app.
Powersensor solutions come with 1 WiFi Plug. If you want to monitor more appliances at the same time, you can purchase up to 9 plugs in total.
